Siaya Senator and ODM party leader Oburu Oginga has travelled to the United Kingdom for a medical checkup, days after being discharged from a Nairobi hospital.

Oburu said the visit follows direct advice from his doctors and consultations within ODM leadership to ensure a comprehensive health evaluation, while also giving him time for rest and rejuvenation.

“As I attend to these personal health routine checks, that naturally come with advancing years, I view taking this step back as a deliberate, strategic moment for our movement,” he said.

He disclosed that he has temporarily handed over party leadership to his deputies — Kisii Governor Simba Arati and Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff Nassir — who, together with the National Central Committee and the party secretariat, will oversee ODM’s day to day operations during his absence.

“As an elder who has walked this long journey with you, I have absolute faith in their collective leadership, discipline, and vision to steer our movement effectively,” Oburu said.

His announcement comes amid renewed public interest in his health following reports of a hospital visit earlier this month. On September 1, Oburu assured supporters that he was “very well” after a brief general checkup and had already returned home.
