Apr 23, 2025
At least 57 people who were seeking healing at Melkio Joseph Mission Messiah Church in Rongo, Migori County were rescued by police officers during a raid at the church. Rongo Sub County Deputy Commissioner George Matundura led the raid Monday, April 21 night. The raid was ordered after the death of at least two patients who were seeking “healing” services at the church. One of the people who was buried at the church was a General Service Unit officer. A family from Nyamira County had stormed the church demanding the body of their kin who died at the church. The family claimed that the church, with the support of the deceased daughter who has also been living in the church for more than ten years, were planning to bury their son at the church. The deceased daughter Jacita Achieng said that her late father in his will indicated that he should be buried in church.
