Bishop Gilbert Deya killed in road accident along Bondo-Kisian road

Bishop Gilbert Deya died in a a road accident along the Bondo-Kisian road. The accident, which involved at least three other vehicles, injured 30 people, including the bishop’s wife and her sister. Deya’s body was taken to Kombewa Sub-County Hospital mortuary. Police said the accident happened at Namba-Kapiyo and involved a Moi University bus, a Toyota Fortuner belonging to the County Government of Siaya, and Toyota Noah driven by Deya. Police added that Deya, who was driving towards Bondo, lost control and rammed into the bus, forcing the bus to roll off the main road. About 15 students who were in the bus were seriously injured. Bishop Deya rose to national and international fame in the early 2000s through the controversial “miracle babies” saga, which led to his arrest and extradition to the UK on charges related to child trafficking.
