Danish Onyango Sworn In as Homa Bay Deputy Governor

Danish Onyango has officially taken office as Homa Bay County’s new Deputy Governor, ending a six month vacancy created by the resignation of Oyugi Magwanga. Magwanga stepped down on February 26, citing frustrations in his working relationship with Governor Gladys Wanga.

Onyango’s swearing in had been delayed despite his vetting and approval by the County Assembly, following a court case challenging appointments in Governor Wanga’s executive over alleged violations of the two thirds gender rule. The petition was later dismissed, clearing the way for Onyango to assume office. He previously served as the county executive member for Roads.

Onyango was sworn in on Thursday, August 13 alongside Obiny Dede and Isaac Ongiri, who were elevated to serve as executive members for Trade and Governance, respectively. Both had been serving as chief officers.

The ceremony was presided over by High Court Judge Patrick Otieno.
