MERU - Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua came face-to-face with contradictory belief he has held since being picked as Ruto’s running mate and the future of Kenyan politics. After a four-day trip to Nyanza with President Ruto, in which the Luos overwhelmingly welcomed the president, Gachagua changed tune and declared that the enmity between Luos and Kikuyus is now gone. Speaking in Meru at the Methodist Church in Kenya, Mikumbune, Gachagua said Mt Kenya leaders are going to look for friends, saying they cannot work alone. “We have sat with religious leaders and agree that there will be no time Mt Kenya region will hate anybody or a community because it will be costly for us,” he said. “We have realized the secret to thrive in the country is to look for friends." Gachagua said that Mt Kenya community had a “problem with Raila,” recalling that “when retired President Uhuru Kenyatta told us Raila is a good man and that we should vote for him, we rejected.” Gachagua has found out that the Luos have no “problem” with President Ruto. Gachagua was recently impeached as deputy president after a fall out with President Ruto. He has since been replaced by former Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki.
