The late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's younger sister Beryl Achieng has died. Beryl Achieng Odinga died on Tuesday, November 24 at a Nairobi hospital where she had been admitted. Ruth Odinga said the wider Odinga family was devastated by Beryl’s death that occurred about a month after the death of their brother Raila Odinga on October 15 in India. Raila was buried on October 19 at Kango Ka Jaramogi in Bondo. She was previously married to the later Gem Member of Parliament Otieno Ambala. Beryl Odinga was the mother of Ami Auma, Chizi and Taure. She was sister of Senator Oburu Oginga of Siaya and ODM party leader, Akinyi Wenwa and Kisumu County Woman Rep Ruth Odinga. She was sister-in-law of Dr. Anne Oburu, Dr. Canon Ida Odinga, Tabu Osewe and Judy Oburu. Ruth Odinga said the family was taking comfort in faith despite the deep sorrow. “While we are deeply saddened by her demise and the immense void left in our lives, we take solace in the belief that she is safe in the Lord’s arms,” she said. “We are thankful for the invaluable gift of the time we were privileged to share with her and for the profound impact she had on all who knew her.” Beryl Achieng was notably missing during Raila’s burial in Bondo where she was represented by her son Taure.
