Former Raila Odinga spokesman Denis Onyango urges ODM and Luos to support President Ruto
Nov 09, 2025
Former Raila Odinga spokesman Dennis Onyango has said that ODM party and the Luo community are not prepared to produce a 2027 presidential candidate. Instead, the community must support President William Ruto’s re-election. Onyango dismissed claims by a section of politicians that they talked with Raila Odinga before his sudden death in India about the 2027 presidential elections. A winjo ka weche dundore e kor piny ka jomo wacha in ne ago ne Raila simu. Oh Raila ne ogona simu. Jomoko wacho ni Raila ne owacho ni gini waonge. Gini wantiere. Wadhi chungo candidate in 2027, Onyango said at a fundraiser in Nyatike on Friday, November 7. “The candidate ma ODM nyalo bedo godo en Raila Odinga ma onindo kacha,” he said. Onyango said that he attended the ODM Parliamentary Group meeting where Raila told lawmakers to not confuse the members about the 2027 elections. He added that Raila said it’s not clear whether ODM would have its candidate in 2027. Onyango said that the only ODM candidate would have been the late Raila Odinga, who vied five times but failed. There is no ODM or Luo candidate who can win the presidential election. Onyango told ODM leaders to be honest with themselves and the public. He told Finance John Mbadi, who attended a fundraiser in Nyatike, to be truthful with the Luos about the 2027 presidential election. He noted that plans for elections have started, adding the 2027 is the election year. Nobody should waste ODM members’ time about providing direction on presidential election in 2027, Onyango said. He said Luos must decide between supporting President William Ruto or joining former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp. Onyango added that there is no room for the Luos in Gachagua’s camp.
