Four families left homeless after Shauri Yako estate fire in Homa Bay

A fire broke out on Tuesday night in Shauri Yako Estate in Homa Bay Town, leaving at least four families homeless. The fire started after a cooking gas leaked, causing the gas cylinder to explode. Police said a man tried to throw away the cylinder, but it landed in the sitting room and exploded before a chair caught fire. Maureen Achieng said she lost all her household items. She added that ruahed to save her children when she haerd the explosion. Boniface Otieno said he also lost everything, including his children’s school uniform and books. Landlady Jane Owade accused Homa Bay County fire fighters of failing to respond to the fire. “We called the fire fighters, but they failed to respond, causing the serious damage we have suffered,” Owade said, adding that the fire was put out by the residents.
