Goons Disrupt Fundraising at Nyakweri Secondary School in Mfangano
Sep 13, 2026
A fundraising on Friday, September 4 for Nyakweri Secondary School on Mfangano Island in Suba North was disrupted on Friday after a public clash involving Suba North Member of Parliament Millie Odhiambo, Homa Bay County Assembly Majority Leader Richard Ogindo, and their supporters.
The confrontation reportedly began when a section of the crowd booed the MP during the fundraiser. Odhiambo responded by accusing some attendees of attempting to disrupt the event and called for their removal from the venue.
Speaking at the gathering, the MP defended her political record and exchanged sharp criticism with her rivals, including comments questioning Ogindo's political experience.
The dispute followed claims by Ogindo that Odhiambo had failed to clearly align herself with a single political camp, alleging she had maintained links with both ODM and the Linda Mwananchi movement.
Suba North parliamentary aspirant Silas Jakakimba later condemned the incident, describing it as deeply regrettable and calling for greater political tolerance. In a statement issued from Mfangano Island, he said every citizen has a constitutional right to attend public functions and support leaders of their choice without intimidation.
Jakakimba also accused the MP of mobilizing supporters to disrupt rival events, an allegation that remains a matter of political dispute.
He urged all leaders in Suba North to exercise restraint, respect, and maturity as the constituency moves closer to the next electoral season.
The fundraiser was organized to support infrastructure development at Nyakweri Secondary School.
