Governor Sakaja Plan to Dispose of Unclaimed Bodies Headed to Court
Jan 11, 2025
NAIROBI - The Law Society of Kenya wants the county government of Nairobi compelled to conduct a DNA sampling process to ascertain the identity of the 120 unclaimed bodies they intend to dispose of. More than 120 bodies are lying at the Nairobi City Funeral Home (City Mortuary). Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja recently said the city government plans to dispose of the bodies. A notice was issued in one of the local dailies indicating that the bodies were dropped off by police officers from 12 police stations in Nairobi between May 12, 2023, and April 28, 2024. Most of the bodies are male. The LSK has asked the Milimani Law Courts to issue an order suspending the notice pending the determination of their matter. They allege that the county, its governor, and other parties have not given people sufficient time to identify the bodies, nor have they conducted a proper and extensive DNA sampling process to identify the unclaimed bodies.
