A primary school head teacher accused of killing a retired teacher and his wife in a land dispute in Wii Kawiti village, Rangwe, Homa Bay County, has been arrested. Peter Angon’g, the head teacher of Onyege Comprehensive School in Kagan Ward, surrendered to police at the Rangwe Police Station on Tuesday, February 10, ending a manhunt that began after the incident on Sunday, February 1. He was accompanied by his lawyer. Angon’g is accused of murdering Joseph Ooko Owuoth, a retired teacher, and his wife Pamela Akeyo Ooko, following a confrontation reportedly triggered by a dispute over grazing animals on the couple’s maize farm. Police say the suspect went into hiding after allegedly collaborating with an accomplice in the attack. Rangwe Sub-County Police Commander Magdalene Chebet confirmed that officers arrested the head teacher immediately after he presented himself at the station. Tension has remained high in Wii Kawiti village following the deaths. The couple had just returned home from a Sunday church service when the confrontation occurred. According to eyewitnesses, Owuoth discovered the suspect grazing animals in his maize field shortly before the altercation turned violent. In retaliation, angry residents stormed the head teacher’s homestead on Monday, February 2, setting six houses ablaze as tempers flared over the killings. Police investigations into the incident and the alleged accomplice are ongoing.
