Historian Prof. Bethwell Ogot dies at 95

Kenyan historian Prof Bethwell Ogot has died. He was 95. Family members said Professor Ogot died on January 30, 2025 at Agan Khan Hospital in Kisumu where he had been rushed after complaining he was not feeling well. Ogot was born on August 3, 1929 in Gem, Siaya County. In 1959 he married Grace Emily Akinyi Ogot. Ogot was educated at Ambira and Maseno secondary schools. He later attended Makerere University College in Uganda and the University of London. He was the author of a number of books and publications.
