Kenya Government Bans Sugar Import To Boost Local Mills

The government has banned sugar imports to protect the local sugar mills. Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the order will be implemented by multiple security agencies. Local sugar firms produce about 80,000 tons of sugar per month. Enforcement teams at all borders have been alerted to enforce the directive including transit routes through Lake Victoria.
