
KPA to launch ferry service between Homa Bay and Sena piers

The Kenya Ports Authority plans to launch a new ferry service between Homa Bay and Sena, Mfangano, piers. KPA Managing Director William Ruto said the ferry will transport goods between the two piers. He did not say when the new service would start. "The authority is aiming to tap into the potential of lake transportation, which will provide a significant boost to various commercial sectors, including fishing and cruise tourism," Ruto said when he touted Sori and Muhuru Bay on Wednesday, February 5, adding that KPA is developing feeder ports including Sio, Homa Bay, Sena and Kendu Bay piers to enhance movement of cargo and passenger. Currently, Mbita Ferry provides services between Mbita and Mfangano and Mbita and Luanda-Kotieno routes. The Homa Bay pier is under construction and will feature a jetty, access roads, a ferry ramp, drainage systems, and walkways.
