A family dispute over a fallen tree turned fatal on Mfangano Island after a man allegedly killed his brother as their paralyzed mother watched helplessly in Nyawalungo, Wakula Sublocation. The suspect, Kevin Killion, is reported to have attacked and killed his brother, Lucas Killion, following an argument about whether Lucas could use a tree that had fallen behind Kevin’s house to make charcoal. According to the area assistant chief, the disagreement escalated when Lucas reminded Kevin of the support he had offered him in the past, including paying school fees for Kevin’s children. Kevin is said to have taken offense, retreated into his house, and returned armed with a panga. Their mother, who is paralyzed, reportedly warned Lucas to flee, but he refused. Kevin then chased Lucas, who attempted to escape but fell. Witnesses say Lucas pleaded for his life before the fatal attack. The mother, unable to intervene, shouted for help as she watched one son kill the other. After the incident, Kevin fled the scene and later attempted to report the matter to the police. However, officers allegedly told him they were too busy to attend to him at that moment. Police investigations into the killing are ongoing.
