Mother burns 12-year-old son to death over Shs 150 theft in Kombewa, Kisumu County

A woman was arrested in Nyamgun village in Seme for killing her 12-year-old son after setting the boy on fire for stealing Shs 150. The boy had 90% burn injuries on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, died at Kombewa Sub-county Hospital Police said that Jocinter Akinyi doused kerosene on her son before setting him on fire. Neighbors rushed the boy to hospital. He sustained serious burn wounds in his upper body, hands and groin. Akinyi, 47, was charged with the crime.
