Mourners set Mawego police station on fire during Albert Ojwang funeral

A group of protesters raided and burnt a section of Mawego Police Station in Rachuonyo Sub-District on Thursday, July 3, 2025, when the body of Albert Ojwang arrived in his village for burial. The protesters commandeered the hearse to the police station, saying that the station was where Ojwang was first detailed. Pleas by Ojwang’s father, Meshak Ojwang Opiyo, fell on deaf ears. Police officers were forced to fire tear gas to disperse the crowd. The mourners, however, rushed into the station carrying Ojwang’s casket as others ransacking the station.
