Aug 03, 2025

Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo has dismissed three candidates who have declared interest in her seat in the next general election as light weights who are not ready for prime time. Millie, who was addressing mourners in Mfangano during the burial of Robert Omogi on Friday, August 1, 2025, urged her opponents to “wait for their time.” Millie, who has been in the National Assembly for 20 years, including 5 as a nominated MP, dismissed Silas Jakakiimba, Victor Ndiege and Aluma as lacking the "capacity" to unseat her. She singled out Ndiege as the most formidable candidate but added that he cannot succeed her because he hails from Rusinga. Millie, who is married to a Zimbabwean, was born in Rusinga Island. Jakakiimba is from Mfangano while Alima comes from Lambwe. Ndiege questioned Millie’s development track record, saying that she has nothing to show from her 20 years in the National Assembly. Jakakiimba called for a change in Suba North leadership. She urged Millie to hand over to the new generation. He said that diet nyaka loki. Suba North, which is the former Mbita Constituency, has been represented by Selemiah Mbeo Onyango from Mfangano, 1966 to 1969; Osingo Migure from Rusinga, 1969 to 1974; Alphonce Okuku, also from Rusinga, 1974 to 1983; Peter Nyakiamo from Mfangano and Kiksingri, 1983 to 1992; Omolo Opere from Gwassi, 1992 to 1997; Otieno Kajwang from Gembe, 1997 to 2013, and Millie Odhiambo, from 2013 to present. She previously served as a nominated MP from 2007 to 2013.
