The late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were will be buried on Friday, May 9. The Parliamentary funeral committee chairman Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma confirmed the burial arrangements. A requiem Mass will be held at the Holy Family Basilica in Nairobi on May 7. The body will then be transported to his rural home in Kasipul on May 8 ahead of the burial ceremony the following day. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga said the county will repair the road that leads to the late MP’s home to ease movement for mourners and guests. The Orange Democratic Movement, the party on whose ticket Were was elected, will drape his casket in party colours during the burial ceremonies. Security arrangements are being handled by MP Kaluma and Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang. Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Obara, Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris and Kigumo MP Wangari Mwaniki are in charge of collecting contributions from their fellow MPs. Governor Wanga has also been assigned to coordinate with various government agencies that may be involved in the preparations. In Nairobi, the late MP’s home is being managed by Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi, Kisumu East MP Rozaah Buyu and Dr Eve Obara. The team will oversee access to the home and ensure that mourners who want to pay their respects are well received.
