Nine family members killed in arson buried in mass grave in Siaya

The nine family members who were killed in an arson attack in Ugunja, Siaya County were buried in a mass grave on Friday, May 9. Richard Ouma Opondo and his wife, and their seven children were asleep when their house was set on fire on April 23 this year in Sigomere village, Siaya County. Two other children, one visiting her grandmother while the other was in Nairobi, survived. The family was killed following a dispute over land. The had won a court case over the land. Christopher Okello Owino, aged 56, was arrested on April 24 at Kianda area in Kibra, Nairobi in connection with the arson.
