ODM grassroots elections kick off April 7 at Ward level

The Orange Democratic Movement Party will hold countrywide election from April 7. The party’s National Elections Coordinating Committee said the sub-branch (Ward) elections will take place on from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 7 in 47 counties. NECC said that only delegates that were elected at the polling unit level are eligible to participate as voters or candidates. The branch or constituency elections will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, in the 290 constituencies nationwide. About 77 party officials will be elected at the sub-branch and branch levels across four committees that include mainstream, women’s league, youth league and disability league. The mainstream positions include chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, organizing secretary and deputy organizing secretary. Other positions are secretary for women, secretary for youth, secretary for disability and special interest group representative. Women’s League, Youth League, and Disability League committees will elect chairperson, deputy chairperson, secretary, deputy secretary, treasurer, deputy treasurer, organizing secretary and his deputy and special interest group representative. They will be joined by 11 additional committee members. Candidates who reject the outcome of the elections will have 12 hours to file complaints. The fee to challenge ward results is Sh15,000 fee and Sh30,000 for the branch or constituency elections. The party said that delegates who have not paid the Sh100 fee for the polling unit level will not be eligible to participate in the sub-branch elections. All aspirants for sub-branch positions will pay Sh200, while the chairperson will pay Sh500. The applications for the elections run from Thursday, March 20, to Monday, March 31, 2025.
