ODM party elects grassroots leaders

The Orange Democratic Movement delegates on Monday, April 7 elected party leaders at the ward level. The branch or constituency level election was held on Wednesday, April 9 to strengthen the party. The elections were mainly by consensus in all the 47 counties and 290 constituencies. 77 party officials were elected to take up position in various committees including the mainstream committee, the women’s league, the youth league and the disability league. The low-key election was mostly peaceful except in Ndhiwa Constituency where at least two people were injured. One person lost his wrist while another had deep cuts. In Rusinga Ward, the long-serving party chairman Jamali Onyalo was replaced in a move many said a doctored delegates list was used. Hillary Kwala from Kaswanga was elected the youth leader The Orange party recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.
