ODM party leader Oburu Odinga, 82, in Dubai for to recharge amid health speculations

Nov 22, 2025

The newly appointed ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has travelled to Dubai for what family members call "a short sabbatical to recollect, recharge, and reset leave." Senator Oburu, 82, who became the party's leader after the death of his younger brother Raila Odinga, 80, will be in Dubai for at least three days after tight political and personal schedules. Oburu posted on his social media that he was feeling well and in good spirits. The family's separate statements made by Ruth Odinga and Oburu's son, Elijah, came amid public speculations that the Siaya senator was taken ill and flow to Dubai for treatment. Oburu recently let the ODM party's 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa and led the party's campaign in Ugunja and Kasipul parliamentary by-elections scheduled for November 27. The senator clashed with his niece Winnie Odinga, who called for the party's National Delegates Conference to discuss the broad-based government. Winnie questioned the party's leadership, saying that the only person who could be trusted with managing the broad-based government deal with President William Ruto was her later father, Raila Odinga. Raila died on October 15, 2025, in India.
