ODM summons Edwin Sifuna for April 10 disciplinary action after publicly contradicting party position

Apr 03, 2026

The Orange Democratic Movement has launched formal disciplinary proceedings against its Secretary General, Edwin Sifuna, accusing him of gross misconduct and persistent defiance of party positions. In a show cause letter dated Thursday, April 2, and signed by ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Sifuna is accused of publicly contradicting official party resolutions and engaging in political activities not sanctioned by the party. Sifuna has been directed to respond to the allegations by Wednesday, April 8, and to appear before the party’s disciplinary committee on April 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at a venue to be communicated. ODM warns that failure to respond within the stipulated timeframe will result in the matter being determined in his absence. Among the incidents cited are Sifuna’s appearances on Citizen TV’s The Explainer on July 22, 2025, and February 3, 2026, where he allegedly made statements inconsistent with ODM’s official stance, including declaring the ODM–UDA broad based arrangement “dead.” The party further accuses him of repeatedly issuing contradictory public statements despite participating in internal meetings where unified positions were agreed upon—actions Wanga says have caused confusion and undermined the party’s cohesion. Sifuna is also faulted for initiating and participating in political mobilization under the Linda Mwananchi Initiative, which ODM claims was conducted outside the framework of approved party programs.
