Orange Democratic Movement party leader Oburu Oginga will chair National Delegates Convention on March 27

The Orange Democratic Movement will hold its National Delegates Convention on March 27, 2026, in Nairobi. The announcement follows a National Executive Committee meeting held in Mombasa and chaired by party leader Dr. Oburu Oginga. The NEC said the convention will focus on shaping the party’s strategic direction, ratifying key decisions made by ODM organs, and preparing the movement for upcoming political contests ahead of the next General Election. The decision comes after weeks of pressure from a section of ODM leaders who had been pushing for an immediate NDC to address leadership, governance, and coalition concerns. The group—often described as a rebel faction—includes the now ousted Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, and EALA MP Winnie Odinga. The leaders have publicly demanded a delegates’ meeting to resolve internal disagreements and clarify the party’s future path. Winnie Odinga, in particular, has sharply criticized how ODM handled its leadership transition following the death of longtime party leader Raila Odinga, accusing sections of the party of sidelining members and making key decisions behind closed doors. She said on January 27th that ODM failed to communicate openly with its membership during a sensitive period, allowing what she described as a small clique to steer the party without consultation.
