Panic as 71-year-old woman electrocuted at funeral vigil in Yala

A 71-year-old woman was electrocuted during a night vigil on a Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Nyawara, Yala, Siaya County. Josephine Aoko Otala died after touching a live electric wire that had been connected for on a tent that had been set up for the funeral service. Otala had walked to the tent where the coffin was placed and touched the metal rods supporting the structure, which led to her being instantly electrocuted. Police said that the electrician who installed the power left exposed live wires hanging.
