Jan 11, 2025
The annual Piny Luo Festival kicked off at Migwena Cultural Grounds in Bondo, Siaya County with a call for unity in the region. The festival, now in its fourth year and scheduled to run from December 31 to January 2, brings together members of the Luo community in Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as those living in Europe and North America. During the Piny Luo festival, members of the community will mostly engage in traditional practices meant to remind them of their journey through history. Kenyan opposition leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga said that the festival is not meant to isolate other communities. Some of the attendees came from Langi, Padhola, Acholi, Anyuak, Jonam, Gambela of Ethiopia and Tanzania.
