Oct 03, 2025
Police in Mbita are looking for at least men who were linked to the heinous hacking to death of Professor Thomas Odhiambo over a land dispute in Rusinga. The men, who are believed to be members of the same family, attacked and killed Odhiambo on the spot when the professor and his father, Wilson Onyango, went to put beacons on a local farm. Odhiambo, who taught at the Technical University of Kenya, died on the spot from head injuries. His father, Wilson Onyango, was rushed to Mbita Sub-county Hospital with severe hand injuries. Odhiambo’s body has been transferred from Med25 in Kirindo to Montezuma Funeral Home in Nairobi. Mbita Deputy Sub County Commissioner Peter Mutiso said that Prof Odhiambo and his father went to the disputed land ahead of the local chief and government surveyor after a court ruled that the land belonged to the professor’s family.
