Jan 18, 2025

President William Ruto and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi formalized their political union by merging their two political parties. Mudavadi’s Amani National Congress dissolved and joined President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance, giving the ruling party a boost ahead of 2027 elections. Under the new agreement, UDA will incorporate ANC’s symbol in the new logo. UDA chairman Governor Cecil Mbaririe said ANC officials will take leadership roles in the ruling party. ANC party leader Governor Issa Timammy will become UDA deputy party leader, sharing the same role with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. ANC party Chairman Kelvin Lunani is the new UDA vice chairman. MP for Emuhaya Omboko Mulema, the current ANC secretary general, will serve as UDA deputy secretary general. Ruto and Mudavadi were members of KANU and ODM at one time in their political careers.
