Raila Odinga mourning ends after four days, family shaves hair

The Jaramogi Odinga family marked the end of the four days of mourning Raila Odinga by observing a number of Luo traditional rites. After the fourth night, family members and friends gathered at Raila’s Opoda Farm home where his son, Raila Junior, was Thursday, October 23, 2025, shaved and dressed in traditional regalia, a symbol of the transition of family power from father to son. Raila Junior was then given a shield and spear and performed a mock war, officially taking over his father’s homestead as the eldest son. Raila's elder brother and Siaya Senator Oburu Oginga said the ceremony symbolised the transfer of family power to Raila Junior.
