Religious leaders in Rusinga have condemned recent murders in Rusinga Island that have caused fear among the residents. The leaders recently held a prayer and cleansing ceremony following the mysterious deaths of at least two women on the island. The Reverend Jared Adoyo Onyango, chairman of Rusinga Inter-Faith Committee, and the Rusinga Island Council of Elders Religious Fraternity Patron, The Right Reverend Bishop Samuel Adede Ongola, said the ceremony was necessary to condemn the brutal murders on the island. The cleansing ceremony kicked off from 10 a.m. on March 28 at Kiahera Hill where the bodies of the two women were found. A prayer meeting and a public rally were held at Litare Beach in Kamasengre, where one of the women was lived. The decomposing bodies of two unknown women were found of separate occasion at Kiahera. Police have not publicly named suspects linked to the two deaths. Bishop Adede said that "lemo maduong ne mar puodho piny / cleansing the land" kod "chogo timbe njore gi timbe maundu ma tinde dwa chako sieko e chula mar Rusinga."
