Robbers raid Mbita Police Station in nighttime attack, steal computers from prosecutor's office
Jan 16, 2026
Thieves raided Mbita Police Station on January 5, 2025, and carried away equipment, including computers and monitors from government offices located in the station. The daring robbers broke into the offices of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations and the Director of Public Prosecution. The computers stored information and evidence in ongoing cases in the area. It’s not clear when the attack occurred but members of the public suspect it was an inside job to destroy evidence. The break-in occurred at the night, despite the police compound being guarded around the clock by armed officers. The suspects are said to have forced their way into the DCI offices using a claw bar and stole one desktop computer. The thieves then moved to the ODPP offices, broke the door and made away with two desktop computers and a CPU. At least four police officers who were on duty at the time are under investigation. The raid came just days after a family filed evidence regarding a 17-year-old girl who was raped and killed in the area.
