A 38-year-old Seventh Day Adventist Church elder was on Saturday, February 1 killed by a fellow church elder during a service in Samba Sub location in Suba South Constituency. Francis Opiyo Kadedi, a church elder of Ebeneza Ramuya SDA Church in Nyasoti Village, was knifed at the altar as the congregation watched. Felix Ochieng Ojwang stabbed Opiyo Kadedi, just a few minutes after closing the Sabbath School session at the church. Suba South Sub County Police commander Caxton Ndunda said the stabbing happened immediately after elder Opiyo Kadedi concluded his session and handed over to a fellow elder to take over before the pastor’s sermon at 11 a.m. Ndunda added that when Opiyo sat down, Ochieng Ojwang, who is also an elder in the church, walked to the altar, removed a knife which he hid in the bible and stabbed Opiyo. Ndunda said that Ochieng Ojwang suspected that Opiyo was having an affair with his wife, who is also a church member. Ochieng Ojwang escaped the scene of murder and surrendered to the Samba Sub-location Assistant Chief Lucas Ochola. He is being held at the Magunga Police Station. Opiyo’s body is at St Camillus Hospital Mortuary in Sori Town, Migori County.
