ODM party leader Oburu Odinga has declared that the Luo community will no longer enter political alliances without clear negotiations, saying years of loyalty have too often ended in betrayal. The Siaya senator spoke Ugunja at the home of Energy Minister Opiyo Wandayi, who was installed as a Luo elder. The ceremony was attended by Luo Council of Elders chairman Ker Odungi Randa and executive members from Kisumu and Siaya counties; MPs Moses Omondi of Ugunja, Elisha Odhiambo of Gem, Onyango Koyoo of Muhoroni, Caroli Omondi of Suba South, Oluoch Anthony of Mathare, Aduma Owuor of Nyakach, and Gideon Ochanda of Bondo. Oburu said that any future political cooperation must be based on clear benefits for community development, representation, and respect within national structures. Wandayi urged the Luo community to remain united and strategic. “There is nothing as big as Luo unity. Raila always told us never to allow ourselves to be divided,” Wandayi said, adding that the Luo community must avoid personal interests and instead focus on collective strength.
