Senator Oburu Odinga goes to court to stop mitumba market in Bondo
May 31, 2025
Siaya Senator Dr Oburu Oginga has filed a petition seeking to block the construction of a second-hand clothes market in Bondo Town. Senator Oburu and Dickson Oruko Oburu are represented by lawyer Sylvia Nyambeki. Justice Edda Dena of high court in Siaya issued an injunction preventing Siaya County Government from proceeding with the development of the proposed Mitumba market. The case was filed after Siaya Governor James Orengo launched the construction of the facility on May 5, 2025, with a view to providing a more conducive environment for traders selling second-hand clothes, popularly known as mitumba. The judge directed that no further construction or development should take place on the said parcels until the court provides further directions.
