Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo was loudly heckled on Saturday during President William Ruto’s visit to Kisumu, forcing Nyanza elected leaders to watch helplessly as she engaged in a brief shout out exchange with sections of the crowd.
Odhiambo, who had joined other leaders to welcome the President on his five-day development tour of the Nyanza region, faced jeers from attendees accusing her of “sitting on the fence” politically. The booing lasted for more than a minute as she attempted to address the gathering.
Among the leaders present wereSenator Moses Kajwang of Homa Bay, Kisumu Woman Representative Rozza Buyu, Rarieda MP Otiende Amolo, Homa Bay Woman Representative Joyce Osogo, Migori Woman Representative Fatuma, Suna East MP Junet Mohamed, and Seme MP James Nyikal, all of whom watched as Odhiambo struggled to calm the crowd.
Millie Odhiambo told residents she would not be intimidated into supporting either the Broad-Based Government arrangement or the Linda Mwananchi faction associated with Senator Edwin Sifuna and Siaya Governor James Orengo. She instead declared her support for President Ruto’s reelection bid, insisting that her political choices would not be dictated by hecklers.
The Suba North MP said she was unmoved and would continue to back Ruto "on her terms".
"I am supporting President William Ruto, but in my own way, and in my own terms," Millie Odhiambo said as Junet Mohamed took back the microphone to calm the crowd.
