The ODM party leaders wept on Saturday, May 3 at the home of the late Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were. Were was assainated on Wednesday, April 30 by an assailant on a motorbike along Ngong Road near the City Mortuary roundabout at around 7:30 p.m. in Nairobi. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed, Minority Whip Millie Odhiambo of Suba North, Lilliam Gogo of Rangwe, Woman Representative Joyce Bensuda Osogo and Kabondo Kasipul MP Eve Obara shed tears as they joined mourners at the late MP's home in Kachien, Central Kasipul. Wanga said that the party will not take the assassination lying down. WShe added that the Luo community has lost many sons. She added that Were was killed like a chicken, noting that the lawmaker was humiliated like a thief. Wanga was concerned about the effort to mislead the public about the circumstances surrounding Were’s death. The Director of Criminal Investigations said officers have narrowed down to potential suspects in the gruesome murder. Police said an autopsy will be performed by the Chief Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor on Monday, May 5.
