At least two people were killed Thursday, November 6 when supporters of two Kasipul Constituency by-election candidates fought during campaign in Opondo, Central Kasipul Ward, Homa Bay County. Several people were injured as gunshots were fired during the confrontation. Police said Ben Ondiege and Bruno Onyango, both 26, died from cuts to the head. The two were supporters of independent candidate Philip Aroko. Aroko and ODM party candidate Boyd Were blamed each other’s campaign for the violence. County Police Commander Lawrance Koilem said the violence started when Aroko’s supported stormed Were’s campaign rally. The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission said it will investigate the deadly violence in Kasipul Constituency ahead of the November 27 by-election. The Kasipul seat became vacant following the assassination of incumbent MP Ong'ondo Were on April 30 near the City Mortuary in Nairobi.
