Winnie Odinga questions ODM leadership as she calls for National Delegates meeting
Nov 20, 2025
East African Legislative Assembly MP Winnie Odinga has called for Orange Democratic Movement party's National Delegates Conference to review the relationship with President William Ruto’s broad-based government. Winnie, who is the daughter of the late ODM party leader Raila Odinga, told the party's 20th anniversary celebrations in Mombasa on November 15 that that Raila was the only one the party trusted to manage the broad-based government affairs. She asked for party members to decide who should take up that responsibility. Winnie’s uncle Senator Oburu Oginga, 82, was recently selected as the new party leader. Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga remains the party chairman. Nairobi County Senator Edwin Sifuna is the party secretary general. She said that ODM members only trusted Raila with broad-based government matters. She said that relationships are complicated and wondered whether the new party leadership is capable of managing the arrangement. The lawmaker called for the National Delegates Conference to pick the new party leader. Winnie recently said that she will run for an elective post in Kenya in the next general elections in 2027.
