8 people charged with burning down Mawego police station in Rachuonyo

Eight people have been charged with burning Mawego Police Station in Rachuonyo North sub-County, Homa Bay County. The suspects were arraigned at the Kahawa Law Courts on Tuesday, July 17. They denied the charges. Kennedy Oluoch Oluoch, Nicholas Otieno, Tofiq Owiti Mohamed, Michael Omondi Opiyo, David Bill Clinton Otieno, Robert Ouko Abala, Samuel Ouma Odhiambo, and Erick Obunga Osumba were accused of raiding and burning the station on July 3, 2025, during the funeral of Albert Ojwang, a local teacher and blogger who was killed by the police. Kahawa Senior Principal Magistrate Richard Koech scheduled the mention and bond hearing on July 22, 2025. The accused are held without bond at the Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
