Body of Kasipul MP Ongondo Were arrives in Homa Bay for burial

Thousands of mourners received the body of slain Kasipul MP Ongondo Were at Kabunde Airstrip on May 8, 2025. Were’s body was flown from Wilson Airport to Homa Bay ahead of his burial, scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025, at his rural home. The funeral procession passed through Homa Bay Town, Kendu Bay, Kadongo, Sikri and Oyugis Town. The body arrived at Agoro Sare Primary School at 5 p.m. for public viewing. The funeral procession headed to the MP’s home in Kachien, Karabok, for a night vigil. The funeral service will be held at Karabok Primary School grounds on Friday, May 9. Were was shot dead On April 30 by a lone gunman along Ngong Road. The assailant, riding on a motorcycle, fled the scene immediately after the attack. Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor said the MP was shot five times in the chest at close range.
