
Court frees suspect in Ongondo Were murder Philip Aroko

One of the 12 suspects in the murder of Kasipul Member of Parliament the late Charles Ong’ondo Were was on Friday, May 16 released on a cash bail of Ksh 300,000 by the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport court. Businessman and local politician Philp Aroko was released by Magistrate Irene Gichobi. The magistrate rejected a quest by the Director of Public Prosecutions to detain Aroko for additional seven days. The case will be heard on June 3, 2025. The court directed that Aroko should not contact any co-accused persons, the victim’s family, or anyone linked to the ongoing investigation. Aroko will be required to regularly report to the investigating officers. At least 12 suspects have been linked to the murder. Amos Barasa Kasii was arrested on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. Police said that Barasa was the rider of the motorcycle with registration number KMFZ 413W, a Bajaj Boxer, which the assailants used to trail the MP’s vehicle and later as a getaway bike after the attack. Barasa was found in possession of the motorcycle in Kibera Darajani area. Others in police custody are Alan Omondi, the MP’s bodyguard, his driver Walter Owino, William Imoli, and Lake Basin Development Authority Director Ebel Ochieng. Police also arrested Isaac Kuria, alias Kush, who is believed to be the shooter.
