Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga dares Governor Gladys Wanga to bring impeachment motion as tension rises

Homa Bay County Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga has dared Governor Gladys Wanga to bring a motion to impeach him, adding that should the motion fail he’d initiate a similar process to remove the governor. Magwanga accused Wanga of planning to impeach him, adding that he was prepared to face it. “They want to impeach me, and I am calling upon them to bring it. We shall see how it will end,” Magwanga said. “Should it fail, I will also initiate mine, because she knows me and I know her.” The two leaders fell out during the Kasipul Constituency by-election that was won by ODM candidate Boyd Were. Wanga is the ODM party chairman. Magwanga supported independent candidate Philip Aroko. Wanga recently stripped the deputy governor of his agriculture and livestock docket. Magwanga said that his problems with Wanga escalated during the Devolution Conference in Homa Bay in August when his office was disrespected. “During DevCon, Wanga failed to recognize me but recognized her husband and the Majority Leader. That means I have no role in the county government,” Magwanga alleged. Magwanga noted that has been denied access to his office, which was locked on December 1, 2025, and blocked by hired goons.
