ELIUD OWALO LAUNCHES PEOPLE PROSPERITY PARTY AND DECLARES 2027 PRESIDENTIAL BID

Former Information, Communication and Digital Economy Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo has officially entered the race for Kenya’s 2027 presidential election after unveiling a new political outfit, the People Prosperity Party.

The PPP was launched on Wednesday, July 8, in Nairobi, marking what Owalo described as the beginning of a “new era of economic transformation” for the country.

Speaking during the opening of the party’s headquarters, Ustawi House, Owalo announced that he will seek the PPP’s presidential ticket, saying Kenya needs a fresh leadership approach to confront poverty, inequality and decades of what he termed failed politics.

“Today, I officially announce that I intend to seek the Presidency of the Republic of Kenya on the People’s Prosperity Party ticket if the party nominates me as its flag-bearer,” Owalo said.

He accused Kenya’s political class of enriching itself at the expense of ordinary citizens, noting that millions continue to struggle with unemployment, poverty and the rising cost of living.

“For 63 years, Kenya’s career political class has presided over one of the greatest betrayals of the Kenyan people,” he said.

Owalo outlined key pillars of his economic agenda, pledging to:
• Reduce personal income tax from 35% to 20%
• Cut VAT on essential goods from 16% to 10%
• Abolish digital taxes affecting youth and small businesses
• Lower corporate tax to stimulate investment and job creation
