A high court in Nairobi on Thursday, January 30, 2025 ruled that former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-defendants must answer charges in the 2018 grisly murder of Rongo University pregnant student Sharon Otieno. Justice Cecilia Githua said the prosecutor had proved a case against Obado, and his aides Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero. Obado, who was represented by lawyers Kioko Kilukumi and Rodger Saganba, said that he had an open relationship with Sharon Otieno and was willing to support her and their unborn child. He added that he had no reason to kill his then girlfriend. But the judge said that all the 42 prosecution witnesses presented evidence linking the three men to the abduction and subsequent killing of Sharon Otieno in Homa Bay County Justice Githua, however, acquitted Obado and his co-accused of the killing of Sharon's 28-week-old unborn baby. The judge said the case will be heard on February 25, 2025.
