Dec 02, 2025
Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has fired one of her ministers and removed her deputy, Oyugi Magwanga, from his position as minister for agriculture, irrigation and livestock development. Wanga appointed Danish Onyango, the minister for roads, public works, transport and Infrastructure, to act in the position previously held by Magwanga. In other changes that were made on Monday, December 1, Wanga also dismissed Peter Ogolla, who had served as the county executive committee member for lands, physical planning, housing and urban development. Joseph Mitito was picked to replace Ogolla. Magwanga and Wanga fell out during the Kasipul by-election that was held on November 27. Wanga supported the ODM party candidate Byod Were while Magwanga threw his weight behind independent candidate Philip Aroko. Aroko lost to Were in the bitterly contested race. Were is the son of the former MP for the area the late Ongondo Were. Magwanga had previously served as the area MP before quitting to run for governor in 2017.
