Homa Bay County Governor Gladys Wanga has nominated Public Works CEC Member Danish Otieno Onyango as the new deputy governor, following the resignation of Oyugi Magwanga in February. The nomination, announced on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, seeks to fill the leadership vacuum left by Magwanga, who stepped down citing frustrations in executing his mandate. Magwanga has since declared his intention to contest the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. Governor Wanga said that Onyango will continue serving as the County Executive Committee Member for Roads and Public Works. Onyango, who hails from Kabondo Kasipul Constituency, joined the public service in 2003 and has held senior roles, including serving as undersecretary in the State Department of Infrastructure. In additional changes within the county executive: Isaac Victor Ongiri, from Kasipul Constituency, has been appointed to head the docket of Governance, Administration, Communication, and Devolution. Joash Aloo has been reassigned to lead the Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock Development department, moving from his previous role in Trade, Industry, Tourism, Marketing, and Co?operative Development. Governor Wanga said that the appointments are aimed at strengthening service delivery and ensuring continuity in county operations.
