Growing list of UDA aspirants in Luo Nyanza sets stage for battle with ODM candidates

The race for United Democratic Alliance party tickets in Luo Nyanza is gaining momentum, with several aspirants declaring interest in various seats across Kisumu, Migori, Homa Bay, and Siaya counties. At least nine candidates are seeking UDA nominations for gubernatorial positions. In Siaya County, former Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo Wajonya and Millicent Odhiambo Oduor have expressed interest in the governor’s seat. In Homa Bay County, Mark Matunga and Odoyo Owidi are preparing to battle for the UDA ticket. Migori County has attracted multiple contenders, including former Woman Representative Pamela Ochieng, Joseph Ngao Joseph, and Rebecca Marua. Meanwhile, in the parliamentary races, Silas Jakakimba and Stephen Ocholla have declared interest in the Suba North Constituency seat. Other aspirants include Thomas Andiwo for Bondo, Frederick Oyugi for Ugunja, Thomas Nyamori for Kisumu Central, George Ayugi for Kisumu East, and Richard Ogendo, who is also eyeing the Kisumu East seat. In Nyakach, Collins Ochieng’ and Paulines Ochieng’ have both announced their bids, while Ambrose Weda is seeking the UDA ticket for Seme. Former Rangwe MP Martin Ogindo is running for Homa Bay Town, with Carilus Odemba and Kennedy Obuya declaring interest in Karachuonyo. In Kasipul, Phillip Aroko and Vickins Bondo are seeking the UDA nomination. Former MP Edith Anyanga is making a comeback in Nyatike, while in Rongo, Zatta John Barasa, Dorothy Atieno Okello, and Hillary Ojwang have joined the race. The growing list of aspirants signals heightened political activity as UDA seeks to expand its presence in the Nyanza region ahead of the next General Election.
