KISUMU WEST MP ROZAAH BUYU JOINS CROWDED KISUMU GOVERNOR'S RACE

Jul 26, 2026

Kisumu West MP Rozaah Buyu has joined the increasingly crowded race for Kisumu’s governorship in 2027, becoming the latest high profile contender seeking to succeed Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o.

Buyu announced her bid during a church service in Kisumu over the weekend, saying she sought God’s guidance before making the decision.

The former Woman Representative said her leadership experience and development record make her ready to steer the county to what she calls “the next level.”

Her entry adds to a growing list of aspirants, including Deputy Governor Mathews Owili, Senator Tom Ojienda, Kisumu Central MP Joshua Oron, Nyakach MP Aduma Owuor, Woman Representative Ruth Odinga, and former Kisumu Central MP Ken Obura.

Odinga is running on an economic empowerment platform, promising stronger support for small businesses, youth, women, and persons with disabilities.

Aduma is banking on grassroots networks, and Obura — running as an independent — said party politics often deny voters the most capable leaders.

With Buyu’s entry, Kisumu’s 2027 race is shaping up to be one of the most competitive yet.
