Maseno University Finance Officer Dr. Daniel Odhiambo Dondi Hacked to Death in Rachuonyo Land Dispute

A senior employee at Maseno University has been killed in a brutal attack linked to a long running land dispute in Kabong’o Village, Kokwanyo East Location, Rachuonyo East Sub county.

Dr. Daniel Odhiambo Dondi, a finance officer at the university, was hacked to death on the evening of Saturday, June 27, as he returned home after tending to cattle with his farmhand.

According to his father, Michael Dondi, the attacker lay in wait inside a maize plantation near the homestead, armed with a panga. He said the suspect struck Odhiambo on the head as he approached the gate, causing him to collapse from the impact. The assailant allegedly continued to assault him as he lay on the ground.

Michael Dondi revealed that his son and the suspect had been embroiled in a legal dispute over a boundary, a conflict he believes escalated into the fatal confrontation.

Homa Bay County Police Commander confirmed that the suspect has been arrested and is being held at Ringa Police Station, pending arraignment.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as the family and community grapple with the loss of the university officer.
